Our mission

The mission of the Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is to guide the Romanian Orthodox faithful, within the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The preaching of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and the ministry of the Holy Mysteries, perfected with the officiating of the Divine Liturgy, where the righteous people partake of the Holy Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, represent the spiritual engines of our pastoral, missionary and liturgical work.

The vast presence of the youth in church and society points us towards great educational responsibility. Hence, the catechetical, cultural, educational and academic programs we carry out, along with the ones that are to mature down the road, within the Archdiocese, seek to increase the education level, on the basis of Christian Orthodox theological teaching, and also set moral standards, leading them to continuous growth – in Church, family, and society.

The Church’s primary care for the youth continues without ceasing, for the aim is to instruct them in Christ. The supplemental care of the Church, towards the divine unity – family, goes without saying. For it has been always relying on the Holy Sacrament of Marriage, as unity between man and woman, that shows the unity between Christ and His Church. (Ephesians 5:32)

The continuous growth of the youth is mandatory, on their way to finding the Light, as Wise King Solomon tells us: “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6)

On the way towards completing its mission, the Archdiocese assumes, with responsibility, the care for all those in suffering and need. It cares for the poor and the sick, looks for the disabled, the elderly, the homeless, the orphans, and for all those that come from poverty.

Our mission

Philanthropy, as a social ministry, in which all who are suffering are looked after and advised, bears great pound in our spiritual life, for it reveals our fundamental moral values and ethics of life in Christ. And the purpose of philanthropy is to glorify God by loving our neighbor. To accomplish it, we are advised by Holy Apostle Paul, who teaches us: “I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words of the Lord Jesus Himself: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.” (Acts 20:35)

With 2000 years of history of apostolic descent, the Romanian Orthodox Church, through its Dioceses in the Western and Southern Diaspora, which are missionary par excellence, through the service and activities of its monasteries, deaneries, parishes, and missions (subsidiaries), preaches the Gospel of Christ in an increasingly secularized society. The spreading and fulfillment of Christian teachings truly heal the world, which is wounded by pain and division and can only be perfected by our Lord Jesus Christ.

The sacrosanct values we stand for, and by which we identify ourselves, characterize and reveal our deep faith and fidelity, to the teaching of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, who says: “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.” (Matthew 25:40)

All these strengthen us and lift us closer to God, so that we may all be one in Jesus Christ (as per John 17:21), Who is “the way, the truth, and the life.” (John 14:6) The great miracle that stands in front of us is the changing of our lives, and this is exactly what God expects of us, as His children and as the ones “who inherit the kingdom He promised those who love Him.” (James 2:5)

Relying on the promise of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, “I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20), the Romanian Orthodox Church, through the Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, opens its doors and heart, through all its servants, for all who sincerely seek and desire the Lord Jesus Christ, Who is the hope, the life and salvation of us all.
