Saint Macanisius, first Bishop of Connor, Ireland (†3 September)

Saint Macanisius was born into a noble family in parts of Ireland in the second half of the 5th century. Tradition says that he was baptized by Saint Hierarch Patrick himself (†17 March), the enlightener of Ireland, who later taught him to read, using the Psalter as an alphabet. When Saint Patrick considered that the young Macanisius was ready, he sent him to preach in the north-eastern parts of Ireland, also appointing him as the first bishop of Connor. He passed away on 2 September, 514.
